As the old song goes this is the last day of gifts so yeah, blogs return to their two/three times a week frequency, so to end this wonderful extension of my patience and capability, I leave you with the debut of one of my most favourite cartoon characters

On The Eleventh Day Of Christmas........ An Artist named Hyun [Eric Kwon]
With the staggering amount of time I've racked up watching videos on youtube, it seems prudent that I give good reason as to why I loiter on the website.
One reason is an artist named Hyun, his youtube channel "FlyingPanda1990" is home to some of the best amateur animations I've seen on the web some of them sitckman, others 3D (but those are his experimental exercise and work assignments) and some just wonderful little feature films made using a variety of media
One of which named "A Single Petal" is such a sugar sweet animation I think I now regularly take insulin
Another called "Sack Project" is exactly as the name states, similar to our exercises with Su-Lynn is just a short reel working with 2d animation (though I can't tell if it is done with a tablet or with pen and paper, and no he doesn't specify which in the description)
This final animation "Trash" is definitely created via pen and paper then photographed and then animated, you could say that this video is for those who believe in taking car of the planet, with the no littering business.

On The Tenth Day Of Christmas........ Selection Problems
Still rather puzzled as to who will be the subject of my research portfolio at the moment here is a list of possible subjects for now anyway:
Matt Groening, main artist behind the "Simpsons"
Tim Burton, a brilliantly famous animator, known for certain films such as "Nightmare before Christmas" and "The Corpse Bride"
Nick Park, creator of the "Wallace and Gromit" Se

On The Ninth Day Of Christmas....... A Blooper Reel of Kung Fu Bunny III
though it's mostly a montage, with nothing said, you can more or less get the gist of how it was made, from the size of the team that created it [was actually quite surprised, i thought it was a solo effort], to the storyboarding, even creating the illusion that the cartoon was holding an object: that process was rather interesting, I'm an amateur so I wouldn't know to begin with, but I never realised it was done or could be done like that. Quite the how-to for budding animators *smile and look at class*

On The Eighth Day Of Christmas......... some theory time
Well, it seems that i have yet to post things about magnus' lessons up here so here goes,
........okay, it isn't that simple
in terms of what I've learnt from the lessons, it has been considerably enlightening, particularly looking back to when we were shown videos of some of the first animations; namely, what ranked one of the top animations in the world "The Band Concert"
you already know how much of an influence it had on mickey and disney's career, however it has been a bigger influence on most big name cartoons to follow, with quite a number of big name's paying tribute and having their own orchestra episodes: one in particular "Tom and Jerry" who have made a number of episodes in which calamity and hilarity ensue within a musical show case
"Tom and Jerry in The Hollywood Bowl"
"Tom and Jerry - The Cat Concerto"
"Tom and Jerry - The Cat Above and the Mouse Below"
And hey for every good Tom and Jerry episode Bugs Bunny will always equalise [ now isn't the time to deliberate on who is funnier ]
Couldn't for the life of me find a decent link to the full episode, so instead here's a clip of the concert in which the "wabbit" gets his revenge

On The Sixth Day Of Christmas....... Animating Problems
At the moment our 3d project has us animating our character model, making them dance to a popular song.
Now the song i'm not too concerned about, it's choreographing the dance, not too mention what type of dance to have my character doing; Shuffling, a Michael Jackson set, the new jack swing, skankin', or the electric slide. This is annoying.

On The Fifth Day Of Christmas.......... Kungfu Bunny 3 !!!!
Um, this term should be used more sparingly to avoid loss of effect, but this animation is "GODLIKE"
I like the animator animation interactivity, specifically how fluidly it worked within the "training montage" and at the end when the guy tried to beat up the rabbit himself, but to no avail. It's interesting to see how far the style of animation has changed between koko the clown, and this obviously the violence has increased, but the playful relationship of creator and creation remains the same - merely re-invented

On The Forth Day Of Christmas....... Simply Business
This is an animation by the collab group "FluidanimsTV" they were my initial subject for my research portfolio, but after scouring the web for info on them, to no avail, I think I might just research a more well known animator, within the stop motion realm, they are easier to research =_=

On The Second Day Of Christmas - bonus gift
Just had the crit with Su-Lynn, and walked away from it with some great ideas, namely the beginning and the ending.
My first idea with the beginning had my character "Xel" putting on the trainers then start to run, but as my character pixelates into screen, Su-Lynn suggested that he starts running right after looking at the trainers, and they pixelate onto his feet as he is running.......fucking awesome =_= b
The ending kind of detached from the actual story itself, but it was suggested that as he is in a virtual world - have it tailored towards a game level, then I took it a step further by introducing the next level he goes onto upon finishing the obstacles.
*hint* the next level is a fighting game, when you see the animation you'll know

On The Second Day of Christmas.... Damien Walters
Needless to say this guy is fucking awesome, if possible I wil try to mimic his moves in my animation, mainly his move where he does a sequence of backflips, then vaults of the large block [ my jaw dropped when I first saw it ]

On The First Day Of Christmas
Since, the amount of posts I've put up have been lacking in number - I'm going to make things festive. For one whole month I will be putting up daily posts, including random animations, referencing videos for certain projects, and plans of action for the holidays. ±_±
Now that I've bitten off more than I can chew, Let's Get Started
With Su-Lynns Topsy Turvy project, from the minute it was set last week I already had a concept idea...... PARKOUR [in caps for emphasis of course], the premise of the animation concerns one of my characters, roaming a virtual world, and to make it interesting he is free running instead of walking. To further materialise the base idea "Topsy Turvy", certain sufaces trigger objects within the virtual space to transform and move when touched. I'm still fuzzy on the ending, I might have him breaking out of the virtual world and the end is a panoramic shot of the real world he is looking out onto.

Picking up the slack
Well, I suppose i have been neglecting this page, so let me input a small update.
The 2D Animation project: walk this way is now officially off of my shoulders, hand-in is tomorrow and i have everything done. Pukka
Concerning the 3D character modelling project things have been back and forth, my first character file corrupted which resulted in having to create another character i have - now completed, only now my original file is now usable which leaves me wanting to continue from where I was cut-off.......and I think I will.

Ready for the Weekend?
This weekend will be killer, upon receiving the first big project, I'm jumping into the deep end - and I know how to swim. The "Walk this Way" project has us animating a walk cycle involving a created character inspired by our peers, and in my animation I will have the character morphing into a beast. It is a daunting task, but one I revel.

Don Hertzfeldt - Billy's Balloon
This is a particularly interesting film. Don Hertzfeldt, is both a viciously talented artist and a man with a horrible sense of humour. I began watching this with a small sense of confusion but as the plot began to unfold, it became apparent that it wasn't your average animation. The comical brutality of balloon's attacking their child owner's, was too beautiful......sadistically speaking of course - don't get me wrong, I didn't enjoy it in that manner, I just found the comical occurrences to be an incredible view.
Mind you I won't buy a balloon anytime soon >_>
Midweek monologue
Well now, one month down - how many more to go?
I kid, the course so far has been impecable, didn't think that it would be so much of a surreal moment slowly putting my 3d model together, or watching my 2d paper animations on screen - I made the right choice.
I won't go so far as to rank my different lessons, as i feel i could hurt some feelings. However each lesson has considerably broadened my outlook on animation as a whole, this particular monday we were shown some videos, namely "Billy's Balloon" by Don Hertzfeldt and "Western Spaghetti" by PES. Both films were exceptional, "Billy's Balloon" especially - the concept of balloons fighting back and savagely beating children was hilarious irony, as it contrasts its image of being fun and light, along with the fact that balloon's do not do much damage.
hopefully i'll have my own work to display up here soon.
